Telephone not connected...message

Hi,

I've just bought a 6210 for my 2001 ML and keep getting the error message "telephone not connected" its version:

V05.56
25-01-02
NPE3
(CNMP)

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Your '01 requires a Mercedes branded phone if your are plugging it in. If your 6210 isn't MB branded, it won't work.

The question looks similar to what I've seen on a European forum. US car can be considered a default here, if this anyway was a Euro ML, then no MB branded phone would be needed. Europe never had the car kits restricted to MB branded phones (even if some Siemens phones had MB branding, the equivalent normal Siemens phone worked equally).

Perhaps mun802 could clarify if he/she is from US, Europe or some other place.

Guys,
thanks for the response. I'm a UK resident and beginning to think it may be the phone that's the problem, although it does power uyp ok in the cradle.

On a pre-UHI Euro set-up, the power to the cradle appears once the car runs (ignition on). Since the mechanics allows different phones, also phones that were released after the car kit was designed, the later (different) phone models normally do not operate with the kit but since power is fed to the correct pin of the phone connector, the phone starts charging.

In your case probably the phone was released (your particular unit) before the MB kit specs were known. On a Nokia 6210, the first SW version that supports MB Smart Traffic Product specs was 4.36, if the phone SW is older, it should not be recognized by the MB kit. If this is the case, then all that is needed is a phone SW update at the appropriate phone service point.

Thanks for the clarification; I should not have jumped to the conclusion.
