Bluetooth Module?

Hi Guys

I am contemplating putting in the bluetooth module into the SL (arrives tomorrow) rather than changing the phone cradle. Just wondered if anyone was using the bluetooth module and what you think of it?

Secondly, how good it the oem phone kit when the roof is down? Just thinking that maybe a wired headset or a bluetooth earpiece may be better.

Your thoughts and experiences would be most welcomed.

Thanks
J

Ok, what year SL, and are you in the U.S., Europe, or Asia? Regarding the first question, it matters. "The SL" just isn't complete enough.

Depending on your answers to Skylaw, you may be able to use a BT headset along with the BT puck. At least the W221 allows BT telephony with the puck AND privacy calls on that setup with a BT headset.

In this case you must have an UHI setup in the car. If your phone supports BT SAP, I would suggest taking the BT cradle with a privacy handset. It would operate on BT HF but you could also pick up the BT handset and talk like on a home phone. Perhaps it works better with the top open. And you don't need to take your phone from your pocket at any time.

Which ever you decide, be sure you get the later BT puck (I guess V1 would not be available any more).

Does anybody know if there is a BT module that works with the integrated phone in a 2000 SLK430?

A casual perusal of this forum would have keyed you to the AWS site at http://www.wireless4mb.com/ where you can click on the "vehicle compatibility" button and consult the chart for your options.

Sorry Skylaw. It just seems that alot of the info I am finding on the older phone systems doesn't seem to be very recent. I was just trying to get some info from the knowledgeable people on this forum.

You will need to update the PSE to 02 or later, and then add a V60 cradle, then you can get the V60 bluetooth puck. The parts should be available on Ebay (used) for very little. Good luck-it works flawlessly and is an easy install on your own-assuming the console in the SLK is as easily gotten at as the 00 E-class.
