Question HELP PLEASE!!cd changer/ integrated phone

I have a 2001 Mercedes SLK 230 with a factory motorola timeport intergrated phone. I purchased a 6 disc mercedes benz cd changer for the car. I need to know how to install it and if the head unit needs to be reprogrammed. Another problem occurred when I was playing with the fiberoptic cables and unplugged the integrated phone from the head unit. When I plugged it back in, the head unit read "no phone," Can I plug in the 6 disc changer and the integrated phone both into the head unit at the same time? If so, please tell me how. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!

You need to get another piece of fiber optic cable and have it integreated into you fiber loop so both units can be on the D2B interface.

Thanks for the info. Where do I get the fiber optic wire from and how do I connect it so that the cd changer and phone work at the same time? I checked with the dealer and no one seemed to know.
Please let me know all the details about the fiber optic wire and how to connect the system. Any pictures or websites would be helpful to.
Thanks so much!!!!!!!

Ther shoud be enough parts in the car from the factory to handle the installation. The problem is the configuration of the optical bus. The fiber optics although confusing to most people are easier to deal with than wire as it just distibutes light. The is an in and out /loop that starts at the radio and ends up at the radio. The easy way to test to make sure that it is hooked up ok is to use a flaslight to shine into the optical cable to see which one you are dealing with. At the radio you probably have two connectors one sayin phone and one saying cd. You need to only use one of these connectors but you might have to take one apart and use the red end from one and the clear end from the other. ( these connectors come apart and the ends only fit in one way so you cant hook it up wrong) Then in the trunk you will need to find the crossover fiber optic that goes from the phone to the cd changer and you will need to take apart the cables in the rear to configure it so the cable comes from the radio to the cd then to the phone and then returns to the radio. The easy way is to do one at a time and indentify them with the light and position them accordingly.

I recently installed a phone in my C240. It's true that my CD-player was in the glove compartment, not the trunk, but even if it was there, I'm not sure that it would have been necessary to "find a crossover fiber optic that goes from the phone to the cd-changer... This member, baffa, implies that he has D2B connectors setup for both the CD-Player and the Phone. If so, all he has to do is separate the two connectors, plug the phone-in connector into the radio-out port and splice the phone-out fiber to the CD-in fiber. Unless I am misunderstanding, he shouldn't need another piece of cable or anything. He just needs a fiber splice available at his Mercedes dealer.

One caution, I have heard a number of people comment that a dealer may need to configure one's Mercedes with Star Diagnostics after new equipment is installed on the fiber loop. The components apparently need to be in a specific order on the chain. Don't take this as gospel, but, that order might be, amplifier (if you have one), phone second, Voice Recognition third, CD-Player fouth, and so on. I'm not certain if this is true but a dealer might be able to use Star Diagnostics to make everything work regardless of the order.

I have a CD-Player installed by the dealer, and installed a Nokia 6310i phone (with German PSE and all), and I have received not one error message. One can only hope.

Anyway, I am attaching a graphic (sorry I'm not a graphic artist) that displays my understanding of how the fibers can be configured.
