UK iPhone in 2006 CLK - HELP!
Bit of a newbie question I'm afraid. I have a UK iPhone (on O2), software version 1.1.2 (3B48a). I also have a late 2006 UK model CLK 320 CDI Sport with telephone pre-wiring, and DVD-Nav COMAND system.
I used to use a Nokia 6230i with dedicated cradle, then upgraded to Bluetooth SAP V2 adapter [part number A204 820 0535 (B67876125)]. The Nokia worked with it fine.
My problem is the iPhone won't pair. I switch on the iPhone. Switch off WiFi. Switch on Bluetooth. Unlock the car. Get in, and with the key in position that starts COMAND. Press TEL. Press the tree pointed star on my Bluetooth module.
COMAND says "please wait..." then the signal bars come up on the display with BLUETOOTH where the carrier would be. A few seconds later, I get a beep and the "message" envelope. Going to this (by pressing the 'phone-up' button), I am presented with SEARCH... and sometimes 'Leon's iPhone' in addition. Sometimes I get a series of digits like a MAC address 00:5d:45:3b:27:66 etc. instead of 'Leon's iPhone'. Selecting the iPhone, the car seems to try and pair, but I then get "sad beeps", with bluetooth disconnection. Then the whole process starts again...
What am I doing wrong?! It worked OK with the Nokia! Also, 'MB Telephone' is NOT detected on the iPhone's "searching for devices" page - is this normal?
Thanks chaps (and ladies)!
So you need the european Bluetooth HFP cradle.
See www.comandonline.co.uk who have stock and are a load cheaper than the local MB dealerships in the UK

I thought it was me doing something wrong! I spoke to Apple tech support this morning and they confirmed the iPhone only supports bluetooth headset protocol - no SAP!
So for all of you in the UK reading this... the SLR-design SAP (and SAP v2) bluetooth adapters will NOT work with iPhone. You need an HFP one (luckily these are cheaper!).
If anyone out there knows different, I'd be interested to hear.
Cheers!
(Nb. USA has a shiny version of our HFP cradle and no SAP cradle just to cause confusion ..)

I'd really be interested to know what's working and whats not with respect to using the iPhone as a phone! :-)

When the iPhone is in the cradle.
1. it can play music from the iPod function inside iPhone through the car audio system
2. When someone calls me the ipod automatically stops and the phone starts ringing
3. With the phone still in the cradle I hit the answer button on the iPhone and at the same time hit the speaker button on the iPhone, then I can talk with the person that is calling me and they can hear what I am saying and I hear what they are saying thru the car audio system.
I would give it 9 1/2 out of 10 for hearing what the person says, I would give it a 8 out of 10 for what the caller can hear thru the iPhone speaker
I hope this is what you are looking for and helps
I have paired all sorts of phones to my W221 in the last couple of days with the HFP module, all work fine apart from my FS T830 PDA phone but I put that down to the device which is ridiculously unreliable.
My wife had the SAP module in her SLK and we reverted to a Parrot kit as the dealer was so hopeless they couldn't confirm that the new (at the time) HFP module would work with her phone. Now of course she has a Nokia so could have kept the SAP module!
I'm just glad whoever looks after the phones and the Ipod integration isn't responsible for the general engineering of the cars.. We'd be in deep doo doo if they were!

The main problem with SAP is that there is no equivalent for CDMA and then it isn't equally compatible on the US market. Since the introduction of RUIM I would assume SAP could be extended for CDMA too but haven't seen any developments.
The problem is like the format wars Beta/VHS but what I meant by the statement was that virtually every new phone (in Europe) comes with HFP. Virtually none come with SAP. Thats what I meant when I said "SAP is dead". Unless the other manufactures adopt it, it's not going to go anywhere as HFP is the defacto standard.
Speaking of this BT stuff, should we set up a sticky on here with a list of Phones, List of Cars, Comand etc that people on here have tested to be compatible? The MB lists are absolutely useless, or has someone already done this? It would be a great help to be able to look up your Phone, your Car and decide which is the right "puck" to buy..
