Question Unplugged CD Changer?

Would Unplugging the two wires that connect to my CD changer in the glovebox have any effect on the the speakers not working?

Thanks,
Adam

It shouldn't have any effect on the speakers. You should still be able to hear the radio.

Not sure, can you plug them back in and check?

Suprisingly if the fiber loop gets interrupted it can have all sorts of ill effects. My radio would turn it self off an on every 20 seconds because of a faulty fiber cable. I think if you remove it you have to put in a plug to terminate it.

I've been trying to troubleshoot my radio. See all my other posts.... unfortunately, my CD player is currently in Ohio, and I'm in NY. I thought it would have no effect upon the radio by having the CD player unplugged, because the fiber optic that plugs into the CD player comes practically plug and play ready. I'll pick the CD player up this weekend, and see if it fixes the problem.
Thanks Guys,
Adam

I believe that if your car came with a fibre optic changer, the headunit is programmed to recognize it. if it is unplugged, the headunit software may continue trying to look for it, making it inoperable until changer is reconnected.

u might have to get the stereo reprogrammed if you want to keep the changer disconnected.

check with your service advisor, that is the safest bet(sometimes)

Those wires provide power to the CD changer (you can't send enough power over the fiber optic cable). If there is no power to the CD changer, the changer won't be able to transmit on the fiber optic cable. So it is essentially the same as a break in the fiber optic link. Now, if you have the Bose system, that would cause a problem since supposedly the Bose amplifier is hooked up to the fiber optic network for the audio signals. So the Bose might not get the audio from the head unit.

If you don't have the Bose though, it would be just like disconnecting the CD changer.
