'00 MCS 1 gyro drift - looking for information
Lately, my MCS in my 2000' ML430 started to act up. It is the CD-based stock navigation unit: First I had intermittent problems getting a stable satelite signal. During no-signal times the map placement went all over the place. It turned out the antenna 5V supply was spotty due to bad contact. After cleaning the antenna foot and the base it was fixed.
However, even with GPS signal the map arrow showing direction of movement sometimes keeps turning clockwise slowly. It is worse on cold days. I assume the internal gyro used in combination with the tachometer signal for inertia navigation is on its way out.
I understand these units were built by Alpine. Does anyone have information about this gyro? Can it be serviced? Can it be lubed? Can I buy a replacement gyro online and replace it?
