I-Pod Amp. Does it work in YOUR car?

The volume level of my Ipod interface in my 2006 R500 is pathetic. Considering that I paid way too much for this mediocre functionality, I am pretty peeved.

I understand that if you add the Ipod amplifier to your car (part number A204 870 39 94) it will drastically increase the volume.

I told this piece of information to the dealer and he said they cannot install it in my car because it is a 2008 part for a 2006 car. Because the part has not been tested it will void the warranty. They will therefore not install it.

Has anyone installed this amp in their car? If so, what are you driving and does it work?

I have the 80 watt 8 speaker stock sound system. Not the 11 speaker H/K logic surround system.

Thanks

Otis

04 E55 and yes it works as it's supposed to..

As to the dealer.... What an AssHat... Change your dealer!

Do they seriously believe that fitting an inline Amp (made by Mercedes) to fit to an interface (made by Mercedes) will void the warranty...

Next they'll tell you that that fitting an Ipod (NOT made by Mercedes) will void the warranty...

Blithering Idiots is all I can say....

so I installed the amp. the part cost about $50. Took me 10 minutes to install.

Sound level is noticeably louder but sound quality just ok.

Make sure that you have the ECU sound setting set to '----' on the cluster display, and no EQ setting for your music (as set in iTunes).

Do you have the actual iPod integration kit, or are you connecting it using the AUX jack (headphones type connector)?

I'm wondering because I've read a lot about this issue and when I asked my salesperson about it he said the amp is only need for NON iPod kit cars. When I called the parts department with the amp part# they told me it was part of the iPod kit.

Confusing...

I guess I'll find out when I pick up my car...

After this exercise, I realized that the MB guys don't know what they are talking about.

I installed the actual kit. The sound was very quiet so I added the amp afterwards. As far as I know MB will only recommend the AMP for the 2008 C class with the Ipod kit.
