R230 Stereo Replacement?

Hi All

Has anyone looked at replacing the COMAND system in the R230?

I beleive it uses an Optical based system and on first glance the housing appears to not be standard DIN sizes?

Also are the steering wheel controls directly wired into the head unit or is there a midway control box that passes the signals on.

Anyone got any ideas or comments please let me know.

I know from a previous posting you weren't happy with COMAND, but what would you replace it with? Do you use the Nav?

I have seen a couple of hi-res NAV screens from others incl Pioneer lately, looked good, but what about the other functions?

Just curious, Paul ,and wondered if COMAND II will fix complaints about useability, and it might be retro-fittable.

What I've read on COMAND II at the moment it won't include DAB, integrated MP3 or phones other then Nokia (I've got a T68i).

And it's also probably a year away....so I thought I'd see what my options were.
