New Navigation System 2003 E-Series
Has MBUSA actually put out any information as to what we have bought and paid for. It is due out in February. Surely they have all the information.
Lots of questions on the E-series 211 forum, but no answers that can be counted on.
Anyone have any information??
That must mean that MBz has not released anything on the new Navigation System.
Curious that they can ask us to prepay for it (even entice us with a discount to pay now) and yet tell us nothing on it. It is supposed to deliver in February which is only 60 to 90 days.
Can't understand what could be so secret. Anyone have any thoughts on this or know who to ask?
<some facts>
MB have been talking about a DVD based nav system called COMAND II.
The E class uses a different "bus" system between the hi-fi components to the rest of the ranges. It uses MOST, the others use D2B.
The S/CL used to have COMAND2.5 (with cassette deck), all other range has COMAND2.0 (no tape deck)
The S/CL have just been face-lifted (in UK) with a 16x9 screen - whats interesting is that the controls match the E class controls (those little spotty dials) - but is based on the current COMAND 2.0 system. I.E. CD based, not DVD and I think it is using D2B
It took a long time to iron out all the bugs in the early COMAND systems ( a couple of years of oddities before the software update of about a year ago really fixed all the problems)
They are *very* late delivering this COMAND II system.
<speculation>
I think they can't get the new MOST based DVD nav system working, and they are not telling anyone in case they need to put the "interim" stuff they just put into the S/CL in place.

It would be a little late in the game to change from a dvd based system. They have collected money (in the US $1620.) for preorders with new factory ordered cars. About all the have said is that it is dvd based.
There must be some reason why no information is forthcoming at this late date. Hopefully they have specs on a system that is only 60 to 90 days from delivery.
It is possible, of course, that they really do not care to take care of customer relations. If so, they are on a downward road with BMW and Lexus on an upward trail.
BTW...if the Navigation module replaces the audio (radio) module, what effect does that have on the Harmond Kardon upgraded audio system? Do people who did not order the premium system now get it with the Navigation or do the people who paid for the HK system now lose it? Maybe there is no connection but I don't really know how it works. Any help?
