See www.mercupgrades.com select W164 ML, and your country and search for documents - theres a document on taking it out there. Just need a torx driver and know how to dismantle it

I tried to follow these instructions. However, my car appears to be somewhat different. I removed the ashtray (removed two trax20 screws) but I couldn't locate the lever to remove the front panel (and the comand center).

The screws you should have removed go through the slide bars that hold the comand unit in place.
1stly, remove the panel below comand (see picture in article)
Then remove screws holding silver levers and slide them downwards - then slide out the comand unit !
Cheers

Is it a plug-and-play love story between US and Euro Comand ? Is the radio code needed after replacing the HU ?

Radio will need coding to understand the fibre network in the car
Possibly the cluster as-well
And if you want a US cluster to display KM/H and be in imperial not US gallons, and switchable between KM/H and MPH (limited to 160KMH on the analog speedo as thats where the numbers go, if you have a cluster that is capable of being switched (not all)) then you need someone who understands factory mode on Star Diagnosis - which the dealers do not.
PM me if you want a suggestion of someone, but they are in limited places..
