W123 Front Speakers
Last Friday I bought my first Mercedes, a 1978 W123 300D off my dad. Over the weekend I installed a new stereo consisting of headunit, stacker mounted to the roof of the boot, controller stick and 6.5" 2 way speakers in the rear shelf. Because I didn't know what the speakers in the front were I decided to leave them, that is until I saw the condition of the existing rear speakers. I tried accessing the front speakers from underneath the dash, but got to a point where it seems the speakers are plastic-welded into place. I have no problem getting them out (soldering iron will do nicely) but before I do I need to know if I can secure new speakers in without plastic welding?
If anyone has experience replacing speakers in a 123, your advice would be much appreciated.
) and pull the cover at an angle towards the centre of the car. The speaker is then just held in place by a spring clip. If I remenber correctly the speakers are either 10 or 12 cm and very shallow so compare the depth of the speaker when buying.
