RPM varying whine in Alpine w/Bose
I have a '95 C280, which came stock with the Bose cassette system. I had Pacific Stereo replace the stock cassette head unit with an Alpine CDM-7874 CD. They somehow connected the Alpine into the Bose amp, running all the factory speakers. Works great, BUT... there is a low-level whine from the speakers that raises and lowers in pitch according to engine RPM. I hear it both on FM and CD, especially when the volume is down low, but not off. It's driving my wife nuts! Pacific says they can't do anything about it. I suggested a power line filter, but they claim they say it can't be done. Anyone else have this? Is there a fix?

Whine/Hum like that is usually caused by poor grounding.
If they don't want to help you out, find the grounding wire, and see if you can find a better place to ground it.
That should eliminate your problem. If not, you might be getting interference from the power wires mixed with the output wires.

After giving up on Pacific Stereo, I took it to Traffic Jamz where they installed a balanced out adaptor between the Apline and the Bose amp(s). That took care of it.
