2000 E430 Sport
Made a big(?) Newbie mistake.

Hi All,

I just registered and this is my first post ever on this forum. I own a 2000 E430 Sport which I purchased last summer - my first Benz. Well....

Here's what happened:

I got to looking that never-been-used-by-me integrated phone in the center console of my 2000, with its old-tech cradle, and realized (like everybody else) that I will never, ever have another phone that will fit this cradle. Its out-dated technology that's just wasting space....space that I could use.

So, in my infinite wisdom, I said to myself, "I know what I'll do, I'll just lose that stupid yesteryear phone cradle and have me a nice little place to keep sunglasses, biz card holder, mileage log, pen, etc., tidy and out of sight". So I pulled the cradle, and you know those three worthless wires that connect that worthless cradle to the audio leads? Well I grabbed some cutters, a *snip*snip* later - gone. Woohooo! I love it when a plan comes together.

I just jumped into the car to run to the bank and guess what? (as if you don't already know) The stereo is muted. I'm assuming that the sniped wires are fooling the CPU into thinking the phone is off-hook, so it jumps into mute-mode for the stereo.

Holy FUBAR's, Batman. I really did an idiot thing - w/o coming here to check first. Is there a way to redeem this dire situation??

Do I need to break out the soldering iron and start putting those connector cables back in place? There are 3 of them, assuming one is for the antenna, that leaves just two that could be the possible culprits.

Can I simply remove the phone control unit/module or unplug something? Right now the system thinks that the phone is off the hook because there is still a signal going to those wires. Is there some way to bypass/remove the control unit without effecting radio playback?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You seem to have a car with D2B fibre connected audio devices. Do you have Tele-Aid or other Audio devices in addition to the HU and the phone?

You could take the phone control unit away if you reconnect the D2B ring properly (unless the HU is the only device left). Ideally you should code the ring for the actual devices.

Do you have Sound system audio?

If the CD Changer is ahead of the Phone unit your ring should work properly.....I believe the factory has the phone in front of the CD Changer. So technically when you remove the phone you should plug that cable into the cd changer or remove the splice and connect the cd changer straight to the existing fiber cable.
