Comfort options in cluster display

I just played with my cluster display and selected Comfort => Steering/Seat. I thought the seat would move back and the steering wheel moves forward and up.

But only the steering wheel moves up that's it. Key Dependency is off (I think that is correct because I don't have a smart key I think just the regular black valet key).

Any suggestions?

These settings have changed over time but if your cluster allows you to set both the steering wheel and the seat, the seat should move backwards. But I believe it only occurs if the seat already isn't "far enough". Try adjusting it closer if it changes anything.

Do you only have one key? This car never had more than one type of a key and that is a smart key. The valet key is your smart key once you remove the metal blade (and lock the containers you don't want others have access to).

Oh I didn't know that this is actually a smart key. But since I only have one key can I leave key dependency off or should I turn it on?

The reason why I only have one key is because the dealer bought this car from an auction (good for me could get a bargain ). The original binded handbook didn't come with it either But I like the pdfs better anyways since you can search!

I don't see any difference with key dependency on or off if you only use a single key. But I would immediately order a second key from your dealer. Never know if you loose the current or drop it and break it. You may also like the new chrome key looks.

Diesel Benz, you are correct about the operation of the seat. MB sets certain "Normal" parameters for the seat position, and the seat does not move back for the easy exit feature unless the seat is forward of those parameters.

I don't know what the parameters are. However, the function is described in the U.S. owners' manual.

Ditto on ordering a second key.

Guys,

where could I order the silver one for cheap... 205 bucks for the key per sales guy here at the MB dealer seems a bit too much!

You can't. Dealer is sole source. You might try a different dealer.

You can always buy a BMW key from the BMW dealer, no monopoly then.

There are other parts that nobody else is willing to supply but keys are something you don't want to be available from other than official MB shops, otherwise I might by a key to your car.

Diesel Benz is correct with his BMW observation. There would be a monopoly only if MB made all cars.

No, you found how Mercedes protects its owners by keeping key code confidential.
