Considering Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 Navigation for my 2005 SL500

I am considering Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 Navigation for my recently purchased 2005 SL500. I will have this car a long time, and I cannot deal with the Mercedes navigation system when I am used to the Garmin interface. Has anyone out there put this unit or similar in their SL?
Thanks in advance!

You will love this unit for it's versatility and sound quality. I have this unit in my E55 and will get the next generation verstion (if available) in the SL65 I plan to add to the garage next year.

The Excelon system was pricing out at $4400 installed, so I went with the Mobridge Ipod and Bluetooth instead.

How do you like the Mobridge? How is the iPod sound/control via Comand? Did you have to mount a separate microphone somewhere for the bluetooth?

I have the factory iPod and Bluetooth, both of which I am not terribly happy with.

Hey AMGfan, where did you go to get it installed? How simple was the switch out? & does that unit have a TV Tuner in it?

Any car audio installer that skills can put the head unit it...the bracketing isn't the problem...it's trim panel that takes the skill to make it look good. Let's just say it was easy for him to do the switch out.

The TV tuner is another module added to the DNX8120. However, since the switch to HD the tuner will be obsolete soon. At this time, there is no separate module for tuning HD programming but I believe Kenwood is working on it at this time and may appear in the future.

Thanx AMG. Any car audio installer(s) you recommend in Tampa?

The installer that did my E55 is no longer in business. He got shafted by a couple of customers and the economy tanked. I wish he was still here and will come back if I really need him...I'd have to fly hiim back but that would have to be a really big job.

I'm having a buddy that works with hiim do the work in the SL65. If you can wait, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm sure he is ok since he was recommended by my old installer.

Most of the shops in Tampa are all shady, that is why I went to Jason. He was meticulous and told me the truth and not what I wanted to hear or trying to sell something to me I didn't need.

Sensous Sounds: I would pass on them unless you want to get overcharged
Audio Itch: Run very fast...scary installs
Buzz Off: Ok but not great
Best Buy: Not very creative folks
