iPhone cradle part numbers
Two difference part numbers are showing up in EPC.
A 204 820 31 51
A 204 820 23 51
Does anyone know what the differences are? Is one for 1st gen iPhone, and the the other the 3G version?

204 820 31 51 is for the MHI connector found in US cars.
None of which are the 3G version.
But the 3G will fit and work but not very smoothly (fitting).
I'd pay again for one specifically designed for 3G but it now appears Mercedes is abandoning MHI so I'm not holding my breath.

However, regarding your last statement, are you saying Mercedes will not make an iPhone 3G cradle?
I'm under the impression there is no need for or ability to use "cradles" of any kind for any phone in '09 models. Given that, I doubt the introduction of new parts for previous year cars.

New models have BT HF usually standard, integrated to the head unit. But we in Europe at least still have the option code 386 which allows a phone docked in a cradle, to use the external antenna and being charged. This new 386 (although the old option code) is interesting in the sense that it still connects to the HU via BT, a bit like the older iPhone cradle. It only takes 3 wires from the cradle to the head unit in the new setup (if I remember right), the antenna coax in addition of course.
The cradle is mandatory also for the BT SAP variant that we have in Europe.

Yeah, I think it's not going to work in US spec cars Kent, I think it's a UHI piece - at least they usually don't! I hope they at least come out with an integrated solution for the US for 3G - nice to have one dosk with audio and charging - I could live without the antenna.
