MP3'S IN CD PLAYER?

I have no 06 with the 6 changer CDC plus the single CD player - the Comand states that it will play MP3 recorded music however when I insert it in to the CD player I recieve n "error" prompt - Any suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

Typically the CD changer plays the MP3's (and WMA) files, the single CD player
plays nothing but CD's. I've had mine for about two years and that's what i get....:nix:

I can play mp3s fine in my car the changer only shows up to 99 tracks if I put it into the command it shows all of the songs.

Mine says it's MP3 capable... but when I insert the MP3 disk in the CD changer (I only tried slot 6), I get the "error" prompt. :nix:

When I insert the MP3 disk in the single disk CD player, it shows the "compact disc" logo, then it does nothing... When I press the Audio button, the CD "tab" is transparent/greyed out, and I can't select it. :nix:

Hey just wondering what kind of comand unit you have in your C55 is it a U.S or Euro Comand that plays MP3's and what year or version of DVD you are useing for maps?

JonMBZ May 30, 2009 07:20 PM

I have 203-870-72-89 USA Alpine command im not sure about the NAV disk I rarely use it because it's a pain in the ass and I hate it. You also might want to try better media like verbatim CD-R and burn it as a data disk

Thanks i will try that, so you don't know the what year your map (Nav) dvd is?

So now that you have burned MP3's on a verbatim CD-R as a data cd you are able to play MP3 on the single CD player

See here's the thing ,Preet. I had a changer like yours, and once i realized that it couldn't/wouldn't/doesn't play MP3,I went to EBAY and got this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...spagenameZWDVW

It's been great ever since, because ,primarily,it's what you have to play them with first, before what you have to play. Good Luck

Thanks for the info, i already have the 6 disk MP3 CD changer, but i was trying to play MP3 on my comand unit

ruffrob Jun 7, 2009 12:48 PM

Sorry for my misinterpretation,I truly wonder if anyone has MP3 playback in that player. It probably exists, although i don't remember seeing one. Good Luck with finding one..

Ironically, I finally decided to put some music in the car and have been grappling with some mp3 issues, but simply put, the dash does play mp3s. (I have DVD navigation + CDC). It'll work with mp3 DVDs, although I'm trying to figure out why some folders show songs available and others are empty (even though they do have the mp3s in them).

I'm currently experimenting with mp3 CDs in the CDC. (working on them now). I'll post results if you guys are interested.

Cheers.

ruffrob Jun 7, 2009 01:13 PM

Yes ,interested, although,it would have to be a totally different head unit for me to play MP3 from a DVD..:naughty:

I learned the hard way by trial and error...I can play mp3's in the single dash ONLY after I save them in sub-folders...and even then, I can only play up to 99 songs per sub-folder....I have each folder labelled alphabetically and all works fine now

What is the folder structure of your cd? Is it like this?

D:\
-Folder1
---song1.mp3
---song2.mp3
---song3.mp3
---song4.mp3
-Folder2
---song1a.mp3
---song2a.mp3
---song3a.mp3
---song4a.mp3
-Folder3
---song1b.mp3
---song2b.mp3
---song3b.mp3
---song4b.mp3

Also, was it a CD or DVD?

sun72 Jun 11, 2009 07:54 PM

yes, that is the folder structure and I used a CD

percykwong Jun 12, 2009 11:10 AM

OK, here are my results / findings:

MP3 CDs work wonderfully, but what I found is that my system had problems with mp3 bitrates above 160kbps. I just re-encoded to 128kbps and set up the folder structure accordingly.

Artist / Album / Song

or

Genre / Artist / Album / Song

It worked fine that way for me.

percykwong Jun 12, 2009 11:13 AM

I'm actually thinking about just doing some reverse engineering with an EE friend of mine and building an MP3 jukebox system that will replace the CDC. It'll have full compatibility with the dash / comand unit. (One of my hobbies is reverse engineering tech).

As long as the communications aren't encrypted, it'll be a cakewalk figuring out the protocol.

How do they sound??

MP3 files below 192kbps sometimes sound crappy...

percykwong Jun 12, 2009 11:26 AM

It's not too bad. You just need a good encoder. I use winlame. Also, remember to equalize the sound prior to transcoding into 128kbps. It's definitely acceptable in a convertable. My mp3s sound great when I transcode down to 128kbps, but I actually spend the time to pre-equalize / tailor the sound prior to the final transcode.

It looks like your folder structures go down 3 or 4 levels...(I was thinking of using multiple 1 level folder and just dump mp3s in it.) What's the limit on how many mp3s can you store in your "Song" folder? (Sun72 says 99 is the max, can you confirm?).

What do you mean problems? Does it work but the sound is crappy? (Like mentioned below?) Or does it not work at all if it's above 128kbps?

Hi! I have 04 CL500. Comand can read MP3 discs but even if I burn them using lowest speed my burner can set (4x) I'm getting skips at different parts(mostly the last minutes) of some tracks (let's say 40%). Tried to use Maxwell CD Lens Cleaner and didn't get any effect. Audio CDs do the same thing - 7 out of 12 tracks play perfect while the rest have skips or don't play at all. What to do?
