...........If that is the case, then current SL500 and SL55 owners will not be happy.

I believe this is an aftermarket system for the japanese market. It's not something from Mercedes.

In the US, we have GPS technology that's at least 5 years behind Japan. You should go to some of the japanese sites.. not only do they have all their buldings rendered, they also have satellite imagery now instead of a color map. Instead of DVD technology, they're moving on to Hard Drive technology which is faster and can store much more data.

We are so behind.. but I guess US roads aren't as confusing so we don't really need a high tech GPS system. Do we?

There are so many hi-tech gadgets that the U.S. is sorely behind in. Things such as GPS, cell phones, and home electronics come to mind. Our anti-geek discrimination mindset is preventing us from moving into the future.

You are absolutely right, i had a Japanese book that describes all the models that Mercedes offered in Japan in 1998, even the E320 comes with navigation option standard....and the GPS map looked exactly like what we have right now, except that's back in 1998...not to mention the interior appointment is way better than then the US-Spec. cars. What's preventing us from getting a better car from Mercedes....??
