Remote Radar Detector/Laser Diffuser Display Location in CL

I would appreciate any guidance on the location of the display/control unit from those who have had remote detectors/diffusers installed. Looks like the Passport SRX remote unit gets the best radar detector/laser diffuser ratings, so I am planning to have one installed, but want to keep the display unit as out of view from outside the car as possible. Is the ashtray large enough to house the Passport's display? Would also apreciate feedback from those with the Passport SRX remote or other remote units in their cars.
I checked into having a V1 disassembled and installed in the interior rear view mirror, as is possible on the 996, but learned that the CL's windshield has a metallic substance in it that deflects signals such that the V1 is only about 50% effective. Of course, the V1 has no laser diffuser either.

Where can I have the display etched into the rear view mirror for the Passport SRX? I doublt that this is a project that I would undertake on a DIY basis. Extreme Mobile in Westchester County, NY could very likely handle the job well, but it is a bit farther than I would like to travel. I understand that they do exceptional work. Locations in South Florida (winter) or near Boston (Spring, Summer, Fall) are preferable. Would it interfere with the self dimming feature in the mirror? Where would the controls be mounted if the display is in the mirror? I assume that the audible signal would also function.

.................The problem is that many electronic shops are not comfortable working with MB's. Here in Georgia, a few Hi-fi Buys shops do work on Mb's and I happen to know one guy that did the mirror thing for me. PM me and I will get you in contact with him. He is a distric manager, so he might know a technician in south Florida. As far as your other questins; the auto dimming feature is not affected. The controls are hidden underneath the headliner and a mute buttoon is located anywhere of your choosing. It is really one of the nicest things I've done to my car.
