Looking to upograde speakers in 1998 W210 E320

So this question has to do with the depth of the speakers that can be used in the door of a 98 E320. I wanted to audition a few different candidates, but wanted to narrow the field as the depth will probably limit what can be used. I was looking for this depth information (easier than pulling the panel to measure) for the speakers on the door. If you have replaced speakers, but are unaware of the depth, let me know the make and model of what worked for you and I can research what the depth is on that model.

Thanks a bunch

Stroo

Bonus question: I noticed the dash looks to accomodate a 4 in mid. Has anyone upgraded to a 3 way component system for the fronts?

The dash will not hold a 4 in as it is @3 in for the phone speaker. The doors can handle about anything as I have put almost every type of speaker in it. My favorite is the dynaudio 7 in is an easy drop in. Here is a pic of diamond hex's in the door. I have done a E 55 with system 340's from dynaudio with the mid in the dooe infront of the door handle. I am looking for the pics!!!!

Scott,

Thanks for the pic. More questions that I hope you can help with. As my car is non-Bose, the tweets go in the panel by the door mirror. Have you any install issue with the Hex tweets or others? I have not popped off the door panel so I am not sure what I'll find there. Also, the frame which you mounted the Hex mid bass, was that the factory stock frame?

Thanks

MAS

Yes, the plastic frame is the stock one. I found that the best location for the tweeters is below the dash as they are really overpowering in the stock locations at the top of the door. Here is a pic.
