CLS55 GPS problem

Hi guys,
I have a problem with a GPS - it shows I am diving 50-100 miles away to a different direction all the time. I read through some previous threads and someone said it could be antenna, or unit. Let me tell you, I had that problem since I bought the car and I took it to the dealer a year ago, they couldn't find any error, but they updated the system and changed the antenna at the same day and said it was "probably" antenna problem. I was driving just about a couple of weeks after that, when the problem came back again. Didn't have a time to go back to dealer again then, while having warranty. Now they want to charge me $100 just to look at it Do you know, if it is antenna again? It just doesn't make sense to me: what can be wrong with antenna? I don't see the number of satellites on the screen either: there is just no digits at all. I am thinking, if it is antenna, why did it get shot in 2 weeks last year? I don't feel like to pay $200 for a new antenna and than have the same problem in 2 weeks again. Does anyone now what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance, guys.

Russ

Showing 0 or dash suggests the Nav processor is seeing no satellites.

Assuming they changed the antenna, this means the cabling or the Nav drive.

I have seen alot of Nav drives (and some times the cable also) which have been damaged by water. This happens when the rear bumper is jet-washed - there is an airvent behind it leading into the space just by the back of the Nav processor.

Have a look at the back of the nav processor, if it looks at all corroded in that area you have had water ingress.

See www.mercupgrades.com for how to disassemble (look at my retrofit COMAND-APS to W211 document) - only a couple of minutes to pull the carpet forward if you removed the right clips.

Nav processors from dealers are stupid money - PM me for a better supplier

Thanks for such prompt response, Richard. This sounds like easy thing to do with such explanation. I will look at it on weekend and will let you know if this is it. I want to do it righ now, but have no time during a week.Thank you again. Great help. I am very happy to finally see a light in a tunnel.

The number of satellites shows just a dash, and ALT shows the same. The location though changes all the time the car moves.

I couldn't wait till weekend and had a look at the Nav processor, but can not find any rust, or erosion behind it. Everything looks dry and new around the place. I tried to plug out and in the wires with no luck. Is there any way to check the processor without replacing it? Do you think the navigation would show the map, if it doesn't work properly?
