Alpine CD Changer

Alpine CD Changer
I just called up Crutchfield, and they said that I could put a Alpine CD Changer that would work directly with my factory headunit. I have a 1997 C280 Sport, and I was wondering if anyone else with a 1997 (or pre-fiber optic) Bose system has done the same. Also, I was wondering how you guys mounted it, did you purchase an enclosure (if so where) and/or did you have to drill it in. Thanks.

Almost everyone has done it, search on the forum here. You can by the bracket on eBay or your dealer, etc.

About a week ago, I received and installed the $19 Crutchfield adapter with an OLD Alpine cd changer in my '94 C280. Because the changer was so old, I really wasn't expecting it to work. I started to think about what cars I've had the unit in and determined it must be over 15 years old. The only ray of hope was that it did have the DIN plug in.
Well, the hardest part of the process was finding where to plug it into the trunk. Once that was done, all I did was turn the head unit on and its worked perfectly ever since. I'm still having trouble believing it - things rarely go this smoothly for me.
I'm sure the factory mounting pieces would work, because the MB unit looks identical to Alpine. But for now I have the unit encased in foam and stuffed in that small right rear trunk well and haven't had a skip yet.
If you're buying a new changer as well, you don't have a thing to worry about.

I did a lot of searching on this forum but did not find any PHOTOS of non-fiber optic installation. I have a 1998 E320 Sedan and want to see where the factory mounting locations are as well as the factory cable harness in the back. If this has not been done, I will probably just do it myself without looking at any pictures and post pics when I am done, but I'm sure this has been done before and someone has pics.
