NAV question for Steve

Steve, can you tell me if it is possible to get my 2000 US S500 to show the MB logo on the screen?
If so, how do you do it?
Thanks

yes...that is possible...

Go to your dealership and ask for a comand software update...they ought to have CD roms for that update (takes approx 45-50 minutes).

I don't think you can update the new software to the COMAND system on the S class on the model year 2000. The COMAND system on the later model year (2001 and later) is upgradable. I had my COMAND swapped to the new model one in order to upgrade to the new software.

Dragonrt, what else does the newer COMAND do that the 2000 doesn't?
Thanks

I was told the same by someone with a US CLK and US factory installed comand last week...his dealership told him they couldn't do an update on his comand either so he asked me whether I could help him out...no single problem with the update CD at all...

Steve, MBUSA told me it couldn't be done, and I'm afraid my dealer will tell me the same (should hear back soon).
Is there any way for me to upgrade it myself? Could I buy the upgrade cd or maybe borrow it with deposit?
What other changes does the upgrade provide?
Thanks

I'd tried and failed to upgrade the software myself to the old COMAND (2000). I brought the car to the MB dealer where one of the technician I know works there. He also failed to upgrade. After swapping to a newer COMAND model (2001), it upgraded just fine. The new version software provide a better (but not good) navigation control (i.e. narrowing down the list of city, address, etc. as you entering the characters, sms messaging, etc.

some of the euro spec older W210 comands don't take the update either...others with the same partnumber do though...might be a similar problem with the US W220 comand in 2000...nevertheless the dealer should at least try their update CD...

Steve, do I need to Update my Comand?

Jay shown me how he input the Address into Comand and I see the letter selection gray out as he type in the letters but for my Comand (US version), all letters stay lite to choice....this make inputing address much harder (basically I have to go thru every single letter to get to my select letter, rather than skip all the gray letters.)
Jay said I need to get my Comand Updated...do you know any one here (LA) has the CD to do the update?
Thanks.

greetingz,
Steve, is there an update for my Comand? Maybe you still remember it. I had it installed in November, 2002 by you.

Steve, I went to my dealer today and they pulled up the info on my 2000 COMAND. It shows that it was actually updated to version 6.29 and should have only been updated to 5.0. 6.29 is for 2001 COMAND.
They said it did not hurt anything, except I lost the MB logo capability! And they said it can not be retreived, that the new software erased the old.
Does this make sense, and do you know if there is a way to get the logo back other than installing a replacement unit?
Thanks

Dealer called back and said oops, my upgrade was the proper one. They say the logo never did appear on 2000 COMAND units, but they don't know if it can be added and are open to suggestions and willing to try.
Steve, could you tell me what needs to be done? Thank you

Dealers and their knowledge of cars...

In Europe we have some older comand versions that don't have the mercedes logo from origin but do get the logo as soon as newer software is uploaded...so uploading newer software onto your older comand should give you the logo...

oggle...not if you already have easy spelling...

.................I think Steve may not be quite as familiar with the extreme lack of knowledge among MB dealers in the USA. I cuckle everytime I read a response from him suggesting that one go to their dealer for assistance. Regarding the update CD, I would like to get a hold of one and try it. This is a website where you can download it. But don't worry it does not work. Non one so far has successfully downloaded and installed it in their Comand. The problem is not with the Download, but with the installation to the Comand. Even if you follow all the instructions carefully and wait the required 90 minutes, it does not work.

...............I do not know lucrative it might be for Steve, but my suggestion will be to make multiple copies of a particular disc that has actually worked and sell the copies for a premium. Going to the dealer like I have just gets you a blank stare from the technician.
