2001 E 320
New Member, first question

Hey everyone. Well I just got my E 320. Really happy with it. Great car!!!!! My question is, what options do i have with the fiber optic audio system? I just want a CD changer for now. Is there any aftermarket CD changer that i can buy that will work with my system? What are other options I may have? Thanks in advance for any info provided.

Mercedes-Benz 300D TURBO 1987
fiber optic hook up in E320

You can connect a Becker ten disk changer directly to the cable in your trunk. This changer comes with a fiber optic connecter. Call SW Stereo Specialists at 800-270-2378. They advertise in "The Star", the Mercedes-Benz Club of America' magazine. P.

The dealer installed my Mercedes CD Changer. What I do know is that the 6 disc magazine for the Mercedes Changer was designed by Alpine. I popped in a 6 disc magazine from an Alpine changer, and lol and behold, it works in the Mercedes. So if you got any of the Alpine 6 disc magazines lying around, be sure to keep them if you're gonna get the Mercedes CD Changer. As far as the dimensions and size of the Mercedes CD Changer go, they're practically identical to an Alpine. The only catch is the fiber optics connectors, so I don't know if you can make an Alpine CD changer work simply by attaching an adapter. Maybe someone on the board can confirm or you could check with a car audio shop.

I have ordered three Mercedes Cd Changers from these people, and the price just keeps getting better each time. They also have all the brackets in stock. All merchandise is 1st runs new in the box, no seconds here. Even provides MB factory mounts for the trunk. Highly recommend.

It is exactly an Alpine changer. I personally am
hoping to figure out a way to interface a Phatnoise
Car Audio System (http://www.phatnoise.com/) to
the optical bus using this box from my CD changer.

I wish I could buy the optical interface by itself.
As it is, I had to buy the whole CD changer just to
take it apart to get to that box.

If anyone knows a source for broken optical CD
changers...
