W210 Stereo install question

I decided to put the Pioneer DEH-P6800MP out of my truck in my '01 E55. I got a wiring harness from Crutchfield which is supposed to be the one for my car (no nav, w/ Bose) and it arrived yesterday. I got it all wired up to my Pioneer today but nothing happens when the car is turned on. I didn't bother getting the stuff for the steering wheel controls to work (don't care if I have them or not) and am wondering if this could be causing some kind of problem. The Crutchfield harness is wired into the Pioneer harness correctly as far as I can tell. This isn't my first time putting a stereo into a car and I'm kind of stumped right now. I put the stock stereo back in and it's working fine.

I did read about hooking up the 12v switched to the cigarette lighter in another thread. Should I do that instead of having it hooked up to the harness? I just remembered that and haven't tried that yet. It's starting to get dark out so I'm not going to mess with it anymore tonight.

My cd changer barely works (is basically unusable) and the volume knob on the stock stereo doesn't work. I'm sick of listening to the radio and using tapes which is why I really want to get this swapped.

This is the harness I bought:

Running the swtiched 12v off the cigarette lighter worked. I didn't realize that there wasn't actually a switched 12v wire coming off the stock harness since the stock stereo works differently. Anyways, the Pioneer is in and working.

2001 E320
The same thing was happening when I was trying to install my aftermarket stereo into my 2001 E320. Everything was connected correctly, but nothing was happening.

I've heard a lot about running the switched 12v to the cigarette lighter, but I have no idea how to do that. Seeing that you did it successfully, could you please explain the steps to doing that?

run a wire from the switched input of the aftermarket head unit (usually red) to the cigarette lighter power wire...

I did a double din conversion on my e320 recently and have a similar issue. It won't turn off when the keys are removed, only by turning the radio off... Would using the cig lighter remedy this?
