EURO Command Update 4april2000 6June2002
I wanted to know wich CD do I need to update my command. Now I have the versions: April 4 2000 HW12 SW14.
I also have downloaded the CD MY01 June 6 2002 but I don't know if it's OK for my euro command in a C230K (203CL). Is there only a global version for all cars and all commands (USA & EURO)?
I also have nokia phone kit integrated.
Best Regards,
Ruben.

"Big Feature?": Which ones?
MY01 is the latest firmware update cd? If there is another one, do you know where I can download it?
What are the differences between MJ01 ad MY01?
Does someone curently run the MY01 of the web?
Will I lose all the configuration (Destinations/FM stations //// NAV Calibration).
So I understant there will be no problem with my euro command and the nokia phone kit !!!
Thanks, & Best Regards,
Ruben.

The MJ00 will do oddish things on the older comands (text on the centre dash display gets its aligment mucked up) that arent on the list of units it supports- MY01 works on all European COMANDs. The CD doesnt have the US COMAND software on it - US dealers have different disks.
I would assume that there is newer software on the latest COMANDs, and that sometime there will be a MY02 disk available, but they dont issue them often - there have only been 3 in Europe (the two you have and an older one for S/CL systems only)
You dont lose any settings, it just upgrades - I have done a W210, a ML500 (we get COMAND on ML in Europe) and my SL55 - I know of various others that have done theirs.
I suspect if you install it on a US COMAND, the TV button will suddenly become active, and you will get RDS but lose weatherband. I dont know if the AM frequency spacing will switch to European .9khz rather than US 1khz spacing - Id love for one of you guys to try - the dealer can always reinstall US s/w I guess.
Cheers

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
There is a newer version of comand software available (saw it on several 163 comands on which I uploaded a "downgrade" software
).Just a thought: be carefull with downloading comand updates because it only takes 1 screwed file to mess up your comand and make it useless...The software update is just an improvement to the comand made by mercedes to get rid of some known possible flaws and every single dealership should be able to do the software upload for you without charging you for that service.
greetingz,
Best regards,
Ruben.
Does anyone has the part number of the cd?
greetingz,
Now I want to
.I will try to tell the dealer this, but I don't know if they will know how to look up for it.
So the CD MY01 could damage my command? If there is a error in the cd, It dosen't backup the last version?
Best Regards,
Ruben.
P.D. Has someone do himself the update with the MY01 cd?
W230 589 00 22 00
and is a few euros for a dealer to buy. Its W rather than A as its a tool rather than a part apparently
Its also mentioned in the workshop database (WIS) when looking for "COMAND"

.............Steve, you must not be familiar with MB dealerships in the USA. Many don't even know what Comand is let alone the upgrade software. I just finished having an argument with RBM of Atlanta. The techs swore there was no such thing as an upgrade software and said all I neded was a new Navtech disc. I showed them that I already have the new Navtech disc dated 07/02, then they did not see what other upgrade there possibly could.........as far as they were concerned, I was smoking crack.
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE UPGRADE ON A DISC THAT I CAN PURCHASE?

Anyways - back to the thread... I just downloaded the file from the geocities site just to check out what's actually on the CD (I don't have a COMAND yet... I'm just very curious). Reading the config.sys file (after "babelfishing" it) it gives the impression that there are several different service and update cd's available for the COMAND - config cd for US and Germany (all of Europe?), installation and service cd, debug cd, test cd, and components download cd - the last of which is the cd that is available on geocities, labeled as MY01.
I am certainly no computer programmer or software engineer but I'm hoping someone who is might also be curious... The file names and extensions seem to be Windows-based (8 letter filenames, .exe for executable files...) I'm not too familiar with Unix or Linux - but do these systems use the same standard? If the files are Windows-based then it would also make sense for the COMAND to be Windows-based. Does anyone know? I would imagine that if the system used to update the COMAND can be deciphered that some fun tinkering can be done with the units. Anyone with the knowledge/backround/free time wanna give it a shot??
Steve - I've heard that you put your "MBenzNL" logo on the systems that you install. Is this true? If so, would you mind sharing with the forum your knowledge of the inners of the COMAND?
It has been hypothesized by some of the posters that putting a Euro update cd in a US COMAND the US COMAND might "learn" how to display TV by pressing the blank button, etc. Steve has said that it won't work, that the cd knows which unit it's going into (rather, the COMAND knows what cd to look for). But back to me reading the config.sys file, it lists several different executable files, only one of which (comp_dl.exe) is on the update cd. The 2 that interest me are NavECE.EXE and NavUSA.EXE, the configuration files. If these can be hacked or reverse-engineered then it is quite possible that a US COMAND can display RDS info and show TV and a Euro COMAND can be tuned to US-spec AM frequencies, and get weatherband stations. I would imagine that the 2 units are identical but for software... And this seems to be the software difference. Obviously this is all hypothetical (I don't even know that the other files/cds listed in the config.sys file are available in anyway), but I'm hoping someone does as this could be really useful!
Remember that there are companies like Nav-TV that have created businesses by hacking these systems... Someone knows what to do, what can be done, and how to do it all... Just not me!
Well hopefully someone will have some input, great ideas of their own, etc. Software programmers - get to work!
= The navigation processor is different.
When you put in an upgrade [or a map disk] the comand knows which s/w image (or mapping program) to load. Thats why the maps work with all blaupunkt(bosch) derived systems.
Has anyone got a US software update disk ?? I have EU one bought from a dealer (dont ask me to copy it)

1) Can anything be enabled using stardiag and multiplexer?
2) Anu other soft mod that can sort this out?
I know you can splice you C connector and put a 2way 3way switch but i do not want to do this as I do not like splicing the wiring harness of my car neither i like the idea having a switch hanging lose somewhere around the dash. Also I would like to avoid modifying internally the command.
thank you
