RF interference with wired functions?

Every day, on the way to work, my gas gauge goes to zero and the warning lights go on as I go through an intersection between the Federal Aviation Administration's TRACON campus and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It's widely assumed that garage doors, ceiling fans, and other RF devices are activated (and generally hi-jacked) by military signals in San Diego, although the Department of Defense isn't admitting anything.
Anybody know (no guessing) if there are frequencies and signal strengths that could effect the wired operations of a car? (In this case, it's a 1996 S320.)
