iPhone connector does not fit with bumper on

iPhone connector does not fit with bumper on

I had imagined someone had found a solution to this, but I did a bunch of searching through the forums and couldn't find strong discussion or a solution of this problem.

I recently purchased a 2012 C300 and I have an iPhone 4S with a standard Apple bumper. Whenever I try to connect the dock cable in the center glove box to the iPhone, the connector does not lock. Any slight movement will bump the cable out of the iPhone. It seems like the bumper is preventing this.

Has anyone found a replacement cable or some sort of adapter/extender that works for this without losing functionality?

I use a very thin, clear plastic case on my iPhone; the connector opening is large enough that there is no problem. It looks like the case in the photo below, although I no longer recall the brand. You might consider a different case rather than a different connector. Click the photo to enlarge.

You can always get a skinny adapter, or cut the bumper case a bit to make a wider opening.
