any info on universal handy interface
any ideas..let me know pls
I read the Motorola press release on UHI and I am confused as to what it is saying. Is this going to allow all of us who don't currently have the MB phone (yes, the $1600 one!) to install a phone that works with the internal electronics of our car, or is it just a way to allow people who already have the phone to use a different model of phone than the v60i?
tsberkey: how did your audio upgrade purchase turn out? where is my box of corn flakes? hehe!
sorry, side Q....

Regarding the other question, I faxed those to you earlier. Didn't you get them? :p
Tim
I can assure you the very second I get a part number for this I will be placing an order.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I just received my c class on friday with the UHC installed.
Just a warning for you all, there are 2 different models of the phone holder for the the Nokia 6310 models.
The older version number has a problem and won't work with the newer 6310 firmwares.
You can easily reconise them as the older one is completely black and the newer version has a silver 1" square on the bottom.
It works perfectly for me now with a Nokia 6310 but still isn't working with my Nokia 6310i, so watch out for that also as I think that in the US there is only the 6310i.
The only thing I'm gonna try today is to update the phone to the 5.50 firmware and see if that makes it work.
A trick to check if your phone has the correct firmware is by typing the code *#0000#. You need version < = 5.50
Anyway MB brought this new interface but wasn't ready for it, my MB dealer did never install it, mine was the first one
Even the Star isn't ready for it, it still reconises the Nokia phones a Motorola but ok for me it works now with my older phone through the board computer and the comand.

1) Does the UHI work with your steering wheel controls for all models prior to 2003?
1a) Do you need an original MB phone (and related car accessories) and this would be considered a replacement to that?
2) How does the UHI fit in to the current MB car configurations? MB is still selling dedicated Motorolas phones.

It can be retrofitted but not all funtionallity is guaranteed, like browsing your phonebook from the board-computer.
MB has stopped shipping Motorola phones in Europe so I guess they'll do that for the US very soon....but......they started a new wave of Nokia phones where you need an MB firmware one
You need to know that the UHI is a complete replacement off the complete phone system in the car, going from the armrest to the calculator, etc...
Here is the factory installed UHI connector:

I am new here, the write and all pics of the UHI is very impressive.
This is really quality work, well done.
By chance is the installation procedure applicable for MY 02 W203

UHI was just introduced a few weeks ago, in June, in new factory ordered models. It usually takes 2-3 months until spare parts become available through MB's parts ordering system, for upgrades and such.
