Guys, I'm about to buy amplifier. My choice is

Xtant x604
Alpine MRV-F540
Phoenix Gold Ti500.4
JL300/4

Anyone can give me their proffesional input ? Also, I'm considering its resale value.

I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Forget about resale value. They change from year to year. Advances in technology will mean that the newer buyers will get more for less.

Ok, what do you think of my up coming install ?

Head unit - Clarion935VD
Front and rear speakers - Focal 165v2
Subwoofer- Alpine Type-R SWR-1021D
Amplifier - Alpine F540
Amplifier - Alpine M500

Is this good enough to get good SQ ?

Whatever you like is what needs to go into your car.

My preference (since you asked) would be:

Mainstream:
Either Kicker or MTX for sub and/or amp. I don't like Alpine. I think they are overrated.

If I had the bucks:
ADS for sub and amp. Had it before and was impressed with the quality. But you get what you pay for.

HU:
I would get something that would match the rest of the car: MFD, controls, etc. I don't care for those multi colored rice like stuff.

No offense. Just my $0.02.

Go Memphis M Class amps. All digital.
Speakers go for OZ or Memphis M Series.
You will be amazed.

The new digital Alpine amps take efficiency to another level. As soon as the signal goes into the amp, it it controlled through a panel on the front of the amp. These amps provide high sonic clarity and are very efficient. My only gripe is that for their sub amps they would put out more power....

But also the most important consideration is the particular car you are installing this setup into, For an E-Class that sub is not enough to notice a difference from stock. Frequency response would be dramatically improved but sound output with a single 10 in an E class or many other similarly built cars for that matter won't cut it.

You need to think about what you want to improve / change about the sound in your car.... THEN, you can start thinking about equipment to help make it happen.

Hope that helps :-)

Not sure what your budget is, but this should be a pretty good setup:

Any top model Alpine or Pioneer Premier HU
Focal 165k2 - front - this is the most important set of speakers, better get something real good
Focal 165v2 - rear - this is only to fill up the sound between the front seats and the trunk, so you can get one class lower speakers
Focal 27v2 - subwoofer - if you want more bass, get 33v
Audison SRx 5 amp. - use 4 channels for the speakers and 1 channel for the sub (if budget permits, get LRx 5.600)

Harris, how's the 165K2 compare with OZ180CS ?? Both priced at $300+

On the amplifier, I prefer seperate amplifier for the subwoofer. How's eclipse subs ?

Focal PolyKevlar series are one of the top in the world. I dont judge it by the price, I judge it by the sound. Personally, I think Focal speakers are better than 99% of the other speakers out there.

Sure, you can always get 2 amps for the cabin speakers and sub. Just play with your budget.

Eclipse subs, nah. Their HUs are much better. I dont like big names speakers.

Thanks for the advice Harris. I was going to get the 600D Crossfire Amp with 2 10" Kicker subs, until I sampled the Focal Polyglass SB 27v2 at the local stereo store. I was pretty impressed.

I ended up taking your advice and bought the Audison LRx 1.400 mono amp (900w x1 at 1 ohm) today. Now, all I need is a nice sub(s). Although I really liked the 27v2, it just wasn't quite enough bass. I've got the W209 with the Command system and I don't want to mess with the fiber optics. My only upgrade would be to the low end. Do you think two SB 27v2s or two 33v2s would overpower the mid and highs? Would I have enough juice in the LRx 1.400 to power two 33v2s? If not, what about two 27v2s?

The most I want to spend is $3k and I want the ability to take the sub(s) out in case I need the room in the trunk. Oh yeah, and it has to look nice and elegant.

I'm not a big fan of eclipse speakers but I found it's 12" driver to be very musical and offer refined bass. Having a seperate amplifier for it is an excellent idea. Eclipse usually isn't a favorite of those who want insane amounts of base since other drivers have higher power handling abilities for the same money. With that said, you can still go deaf with the eclipse (with the right amplifier), just not as quickly.

If you really want to boom,

I would go with some Orion XTR 12' with the red 225 XTR (Orion)amp to each, you can run at 1/2 ohm on each and blow the hell out of anyone. I used this in my old truck and was the loudest thumper in the neighborhood. you could get most of this off ebay since orion hasn't been around for a while.
