COMAND update menu

I have a 2000 2.5 COMAND and am having trouble getting to the Update menu in the unit. I know it has one , as it has previously been updated at the dealer.
Can anyone help me get to that menu?
Thanks

To Falsh COMAND Software:

1. Turn ignition off and remove key.
2. Turn on the COMAND unit by pressing PWR button.
3. Eject navigation CD-ROM (if installed).
4. Turn off the COMAND unit by pressing the PWR key.
5. Wait a minimum of 15 seconds.
6. Press and hold both the “*” and “#” keys. While continuing to hold the keys down, turn on
COMAND by pressing the PWR button.
7. Insert update CD-ROM. “Service Download from CD” menu appears.
Note: Dates of current and new software will appear. The “new” software date should be more current
than the one being replaced. If not, abort the process by selecting CANCEL. If CD-ROM ejects itself and the
CD’s date of software is newer, reinsert CD-ROM and continue procedure. Do not leave the service CD in the
customers car.
8. Using the cursor knob, select START HEAD UNIT (should be selected by default) and then
depress the knob to begin the download process.
Attention!
The update process takes up to 50-60 minutes and it is not necessary for the technician to remain
with the vehicle and observe the update process. The technician should return to the vehicle after
the prescribed time to finish the procedure. During this time, DO NOT start the vehicle, operate any
other vehicle systems, eject the CD or power down the COMAND unit. Any significant voltage drop in
the vehicle could abort the update process. A partially completed update may render the COMAND
unit inoperable. If the update procedure is interrupted, aborts or takes longer than 1 hour, remove
the COMAND fuse F4f61 (located under rear seat) for 30 seconds and restart procedure. DO NOT
insert a navigation CD into the COMAND unit if a download via CD-ROM has not been completed.

awiner, thanks for the info. I have tried that precedure several times, and it stops dead in its tracks at step 7. It says insert download service cd even though I have done so. That message remains there, and never lists any software versions. Th einsert cd message just stays and I have left it for over 15 minutes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Steve, do you have any ideas on why it stops at the step 7 that awiner outlined? I know there has to be an update mode, as the unit received and accepted the normal factory update.
Or, have I reached the end of the long and winding road as far as updating my COMAND?
Thanks

Like I said in several of the mails, there are some first-off european comands that don't take updated CDs either (the so-called "non CANBUS" 210 and 208 comands...I don't have any experience with US spec comands other then the ones used in the 203...
It might be that the first couple of US spec 220 comands have the same bug as the first couple of euro 210 comands and don't take update CDs...I don't know.
The only thing I DO know is that I have updated several W203 US spec comands with the CD that you currently have...

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I need to let it go.
I can only hope my COMAND goes kaput before the warranty expires, and they replace it with a newer version that is or can be upgraded.
