Replacing the COMAND just got easier

I checked into the OPT1 for my 2003 SL500 about six months ago and was told it would not work. Has the system been updated to allow changing the head unit and keeping the rest of the system intact? The 2003 Nav unit is pretty much useless. I can reach my destination quicker than I can program the destination.

2004 CL500
Upgrading Audio/Nav/BT Etc W215 2004 CL500
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a 2004 CL500 and I am looking to upgrade the current COMAND HU with an Alpine HU. Wish to retain the Bose amp and the speakers but feel the balance of the equipment is redundant. Looking for information specific to my vehicle to assist me in the installation. I have read through this forum and just looking for a little guidance to assist me.
Equipment I have:
Alpine INE w957HD
NAV-TV MOST HUR-MB
Axxess ASWC-1
VMA3B-antenna adapter--with both a 12' and 8' antenna extensions
VTK230 HD backup camera
I would like to do a little prep work and then have a professional installer tie in the HU with the steering wheel controls and the NAV-TV module.
Assume I need to retain the following in the MOST loop: Amp-AGM-TeleAid module (unless I bypass and get vehicle recoded). Is there any other component in the MOST loop that is a must keep. NAV and cd disc changer to be bypassed and physically removed.
I will be removing the Motorola phone system (cradle and wires/cable, etc.) from the center console upper arm rest compartment and running the USB connector there for IPOD and flash drive connectivity. Also, running the cables to set up the microphone for the blue tooth and the GPS module for the Navigation.
Is there a good place in the trunk area to connect a 12V line and ground for the backup camera? Can run the connections under the trunk lid cover and then the RCA cable under back seat towards the front center console.
Finally, is the silver amp (has fins for cooling perhaps) looking thing attached to the drivers side rear wheel well with an antenna and power connection for the phone or is it for the radio? If it for the phone, where is the antenna connection located for the radio?
Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Terry

sorry on vacation, did you get it? you should run the camera wires with power and ground back up front to the radio as it will make troubleshooting later easier if there is a problem. antenna should go to the audio gateway

E550 HU update
I've been looking for 2009 E550 so I could get the latest version of Comand for the W211. Will this work for a 2007 or 2008 E550? If so, how do I get one? I already have a two month old Kenwood and would like to use it; however, I didn't realize I could use it.
Help...

So how much should a shop charge for a job on an '07 SL55? Shop I went to didn't know about this, so any suggestions as to who I could go to around NJ/NY would help as well.

I live in Canada. Don't know anything about NJ/ny. Sorry.
Shouldn't take a professional more than 2-3hrs. Not a complicated job for them.

About 3 hours for a shop, I did so many I can knock em out in about an hour but I have done many and know every short cut there is when running the wires to the AGW

You know I have this "hiss" when I turn down the volume. If I installed the steering wheel control, ASWC-1, and turned the volume down there, do you think I can get rid of the "hiss"?
Thanks.
