Sub for 2000+ CLK

I want to install a sub into my factory head unit. Does anyone know how I can do this? I heard something about benz's using fiber optics for their speakers? Is this true? How would I get past this Thanks.

i done this on a 99 clk... the easiest way is to tap in to the rear subwoofer speakers that come stock in the clk... then with your aftermarket amp use the hi input wire and itll work...

In order to do this, you need either an amp that accepts high-level (speaker) inputs or a high-low converter to change the high-level signal to an RCA signal for the amp.

What's the difference between a high/low converter and a line out converter?

Also will I need to change the wires leading from my alternator to my battery?

TIA.

It's probably the same thing, as long as it changes the signal from speaker-level to RCA. You don't need to upgrade the wiring between the alternator and battery unless you are gonna install a powerful system.

How powerful is powerful? My friend's letting me use his Kicker Solobaric S15D which has a max watt of 750.

What amp are you gonna use? It depends on the current draw of the amp. Also, bass is transient, so the peak current draw will be for a split second at a time. I would say anything less than 1000 watts would be OK with stock alternator wiring. If you go well beyond 1000, you would probably want a more powerful aftermarket alternator and upgraded wiring.
