93 w140 300SE stereo help needed
I recently switched from a 91 300E to a 93 300SE. I am fine with the stock stereo sound and my original plan was to use a cassette adapter to listen to the music on my phone. Unfortunatly the cassette function is broken on the stock radio (everything else works) and I have problems with speakers making noise/popping and cutting out off and on (rare occasions it will work fine). Right now I have my phone connected to an FM transmitter and that is how I listen to music. I know this stereo system is a pain but I dont have much money and I want to listen to music hassle free. What is the cheapest option? here is what I have read and the questions that go along with it:
Should I install an aftermarket amp/s? I know there is an impedance issue so what if I replace the rear deck subs with 4ohm speakers and would that eliminate having to install multiple crossovers?
I have a aftermarket cd player/radio from my previous car. This would allow me to stop using my phone to hear music for I could just burn mp3 cd's. I hear there is a adapter but I cannot find it or its price so what is the adapter, where can I find it and how much? Becker only provides an adapter with a radio purchase and I cant afford that package.
Is there any other suggestions on what I could do to remedy this? Please keep in mind I dont want to spend an arm and a leg and want to do as little part replacement as possible.
