is it possible to...
Hey fellas... another question... i have a 97 c36...and i really really really want to install a comand system from a 01 s500... possible?!?

cuz... have an opportunity to get one at a great price.

im not gonna do it myself... i have a great install guy... and i can handle the price.
Otherwise, this guy is going to have to be real skilled with fabrication of wood dash trim and plastic dash supports.
Or if you are just waiting for someone to say "go for it" (it appears you are since every reason not to do it is "not an issue")...
I say just go for it!

I have personally retrofitted 2 COMANDs in my cars and couldn't be happier. I could of got S-class Comand, they are available on Ebay for about $700-800, I stick with what work even the price is slightly higher. If you have already made up your mind like Scrochie said, then good luck.John

my question isnt if you guys think i should try it...my question is will it work in my car since my car isnt fiber optic...
Fibre optic has nothing to do with the car. It's part of the telematics system. You can add fibre optic to any car, you just run the fibre optic cables. You could run fibre optic in a Model T if you wanted to. Put the COMAND in the front of the Model T, run the fibre optic cables back to the CD changer in the back, it's all good!
So if that's all that's stopping you, get moving! We want pictures when you're done.
Oh, there's part numbers in the forums here for the fibre optic cable harnesses. Just do a search... this will make it a lot easier because the parts guys won't really know what you need.

I've been asked by newer C-Class owners (240s/320s) if they can get the nav screen put in after they opted not to for their delivery. I've seen nav screens in c-classes from factory so I know its possible, but I hear they have to go aftermarket if they didn't order as option.
