I tackled my wife's lack of AM isue last night. I found that since she had her factory radio replc=aced with a Sony single CD player, her AM disappeared. I removed the radio and found that since there was no power antenna, the installer never hooked up the power antenna lead. The factory uses a 12 volt feed from ignition through the factory radio to power the little antenna amplifier mounted under the headliner in front of the back glass. I found that pin 5 on the lower factory plug..blue wire w/ yellow stripe, was the power wire to this amplifier. I used the power antenna out from the back of the Sony to feed the ant amp. LO and behold...AM and much better FM now. If you try this repair, PLEASE check your individual wiring...from what I have heard MB uses different colored wires for different years for the antenna amp.
