Question Replacing window antenna with mast?

I am new to this and hope I am posting on the correct forum.
My car is a 2006 CL 230 coupe -- which I bought around 3 moths ago directly from a MB Dealer - with a full 90 day warranty and all is fine other then -------
It's key (FOB) seems to be possessed - it sometimes works fine and sometimes not - my FM radio reception is also poor -- I have taken it to the dealer on two occasions but when there it works great even from a fair distance ---- I have read several posts which point the problem to the embedded antenna in the rear hatch -- and yes the glass was tinted which I removed in an effort to solve this problem, and the key batteries are new. I am wondering if the problem may be solved if I just install a mast antenna? I know that my radio reception would improve but not sure if it would work with the FOB. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I dont believe a mast antenna will work. We have seen window tinters cut the lines ithe back glass which will also kill the antenna. I would replace the combar first though, its a lot cheaper then a new rear glass!

A mast antenna mounted on the front quarterpanel with new coaxial cable plugged into the radio should work fine. Where ever you mount the antenna just fish new cable to radio. People used to do it all the time....

There is an amp for the antenna that seems to be the major problem for these cars. There is a Factory Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on the subject. Look here:

Thanks - I had removed the top of the hatch plastic trim and noticed some of the black strips running underneath it were loose (at the time I had no idea what their purpose was) but using shims I wedged them tight against the glass and also used a hair dryer in an attempt to re-activate the glue. This made no difference to my radio reception but unfortunately when I removed the trim two of the plastic tabs that fit into the metal clips broke so I had to partly silicone the trim back on.
Unrelated to the antenna thing -- I think that if too many tabs from the rear window plastic panels break one could carefully drill holes where the tabs used to be and use neat little screws - screwed into the metal clips.

Yes as much as I mostly listen to music from my iPhone I miss my Fm stations so I may do just that. We also have a Saab with also a rear window in glass antenna which get great radio reception and never gave us any FOB problems -

A aftermarket antenna would be fine or fm, your remote however wouldnt fare so well...
