KEYLESS GO
This may be the dumbest question ever, but what do I do with the key fob when I take my 2013 ML-350 to a car wash? Give it to the car wash attendant? Throw it into the center console?

I'm not gonna say this is the dumbest question ever, so I'll just answer your question.
If you would like the person washing your car to be able to drive your car so that they can wash it, it stands to reason that the fob to operate your vehicle would be requisite.
Unless you expect the attendant to push your vehicle.

For car washes and valet attendants I leave in a cupholder an tell them that the key is there.

If I have to leave the car with any type of attendant, I always leave keyfob in the ignition. They've always treated it as a key & they've never used the keyless go feature in my short experience.
Of course, within a week of getting the car & not having any experience with a keyless system, I left the car at a garage (luckily still running!) and left the keyfob in my pocket!
When I got back the attendant was cursing me out that I forgot the key because after he parked it, he couldn't start it! ooops
