Kind of funny, but grossly untrue... my iPod is over two years old and still works great, but it looks like it has been through a lot.
Also, batteries can be had from $49, and Apple's replacement is $99.

In addition you can buy auto kit to forget battery nightmare. So, I bought one, but didn't use though. I have 90 minutes driving everyday, and charge batteries once a week, cool, isn't it?
