Question questions regarding OBD-II
In my 2007 E320CDI Avantgarde there is a 16-pin OBD-II connector right next to hood release.

1) What are the additional features/options provided by special diagnostics hardware compared to simple OBD-II to USB adapters?

2) I have seen products which are connected to OBD-II port and they log and store diagnostics messages. Why are such products needed? I would assume that car itself has at least some memory to log the diagnostics data?

3) What is the most feature-rich OBD software? I have read pretty good reviews about Easyobdii premium version, but maybe there are better ones out there?
