2001 CLK - Command Upgrade

I have a 2001 CLK that I would like to upgrade to Command. Can you help me with what is required? I have the following questions:

- What is the best source for the parts for this upgrade?
- Who would be the best person to approach for installation? I'm located in San Jose, CA.

- Would the Command unit I get be DVD based - or CD based, as was available for the 2001 CLK?
- Any thoughts on a US vs. Euro spec unit? If Euro spec was installed, would the TV Tuner be an option?
- Would this unit have an AUX input? I'm hoping for a place to plug in the Ipod.
- What version of Maps would it include? Where is the best source for new maps?
- Any idea of costs for parts and installation?

Many Thanks In Advance,

Alex

Thanks!

I have contacted Steve off line.. I am waiting to hear back with the details. From what I have read - Steve seems to be the man to talk too!!

Any suggestions or concerns? Was there a dealer in the SF N. Bay area that was more receptive to turning on the Command Feature?

Thanks,
Alex

Yes you can have AUX input
DVD Comand is NOT possible
TV Tuner has Dual Audio/Video Inputs
Check my site for pictures of the exact comand with TV tuner installed.

Very good work! I would like to know how the bottom spot light works and if you need to replace all the mirror for clear blinker, fold and bottom light, do you need to reprogram via stardiagnosis for it? Do you have some pics about your Nokia 6310 installed
Regards

I pinged Steve and it seems that he only has Euro spec commands at the moment. I heard one major difference is that the English Voice would have a UK accent. Is this the case? Has this been a problem for anyone?

Any other concerns on US vs. Euro spec?

Thanks!

The Euro COMAND does not have the weather band, but has a low frequency band which in not used in the US. The AM band is different. The Euro AM band starts at 531 KHz and goes to about 1600 KHz with a station spacing of 9 Khz. The US band starts at 530 KHz and goes to 1710 KHz with a station spacing of 10 KHz. The US COMAND give distances in feet or meters. The Euro COMAND gives distances in yards or meters.

For those of you with the Euro spec command - does the 9k spacing versus 10k for the US version cause you a problem when tuning stations? Here in San Jose - I tune 560, 610, 740, 810, and 910 on the AM side. Will these still come in?

Losing the weather band is not a biggie for me. I guess I can get used to yards vs. feet on the navigation. Is the voice changable from Man to a woman?

Looks like I am on Steve's list for Feb...

- Euro Spec Command
- Aux Input for ipod
- Aux Video for DVD player
- No TV Tuner..

Any other suggestions? Am I missing something?

Thank you again,

Alex

The Euro COMAND will tune to 558 for 560, 612 for 610, 738 for 740, 810 is exactly the same, 909 for 910. You should be able to receive all these stations depending on signal strength.

The voice is a woman. I don't know if the sex of the voice can be changed.

.........On my Euro Comand, there is indeed a decrease in signal strength of the AM stations. I am probably one of the few old farts that still listen to AM radio. So this is for me a slight problem. Mercedes radios of all types do have very weak receptions in general. If you get XM, then you'll forget about both AM and FM.

Ted,

Thank you.. This would be an issue for me - since I do listen to AM. I'm not sure how much - as I have recently decided to listed to more music and less talk!! :-)

Hopefully - I will be catching up with Steve next month and have the system installed.

Any other suggestions on where to purchase the CD's? What is the latest dates for the software?

Thanks Again,

Alex
