After market head unit install
I have a 2000 slk and i would like to install my xm radio. i talked w/ bose and they dont have anyadapter that can alow me to conect to my xm tuner, there for i have 2 options. one i get an fm modulation but i dont want to do that. so therefore all i have as an option is to install a new head unit that i already own, however everywhere i go they want to charge me a grand just in install the parts i already own, bec they have to rewire the car so they say. the head unit i have is a pioneer 8400 and it has several pre-amp outputs, am i able to use those to conncet to the amp? if not does anyone know of an addapter that i can get so i dont have to bypass the amp and all. thanks

I just installed a Kenwood unit (MP3/WMA) with a Sirius tuner (free promo). It fit like a glove and the antenna is on the back shelf. I bought it from Crutchfield and they give you all the wire harness and adapters that you need (tell them that it's for a 1998 VW Passat - b/c thay don't have the info for the slk). You don't need to rewire that car. Just connect the wires from the adapter to the head unit's plug and off you go. A little bit of work is need to fish the cable from the Sirius tunes (in the trunk) to the head unit. If you want I can take some pictures to show you the install.
If you are set on XM, however, Alpine has a new unit that has the XM tuner built in, but it does not play MP3's. For that you will need the CD changer.

hey man thanks... i actually already have all they xm tunner stuff and all and i already have a pioneer DEH-8400 head unit, but thanks for the advice. ill be lookin into that real soon, i hate to have to pay for my xm like this when i cant even use it. and again, thanks for all the help!
