2001 CLK-430 Can you use TeleAid GPS Antenna for Comand GPS?
Im about to install a comand 2.0 in my 01 Clk-430 and wonder that since the teleaid uses GPS, isnt the antenna on the roof suficient for the comand nav system? The second question I have is does MB leave a place to tap into this antenna in or around the teleaid control module under the pass seat or center console?

Techinically you can use the Teleaid GPS antenna but you will have to run some wires and buy a electronic splitter from Benz. Not really worth all the trouble. Stick the antenna behind the guage cluster and it works fine.

GPS Antenna more expensive ....
I just did a COMAND retrofit in my '01-C320. I used a splitter and a new coax cable. They were cheaper than buying the antenna? My dealership listed the stick on antenna at $120. The splitter was $65 and the coax from the rear window to the center console another $35.
Its more work to do it but I think I am getting better reception than using the same antenna under the dash. Just my two cents.

I bought a 1-piece antenna for ~$45, so I think mine was quite cheap.
In regards to better reception, I found that mine had great reception... I didn't mount it under the dash (which is why you prob had poor reception), but my antenna is not in clear site... not even if you tried looking for it.

yes you are correct, the recepotion is better if you use the original antenna or a new glass mount antenna. Reception is not bad with it being mounted under the dash either. It works fine and Steve has done this hundreds of times. Most people don't want to deal with removing all the interior panels of the car to route the new wire.
