Thanks, I was afraid of that. Yours and T-bone's approach looks like the best way to go. I wouldn't want that thing sitting on top of my trunk.

Just had Sirius installed on my 2004 S500.
Mounted under the hood in the grill housing
for the windshield washers. GREAT LOOK.

Like I said, as long as they offer the option, then they've done what was promised. The E-Class replacement situation was a PR decison by them after determining that 2003 E-Class vehicles could not be retrofitted with the nav system AT ALL. An ugly or undesirable antenna mount isn't the same thing.

Any W211 can be retrofitted with APS50. Nobody said it was easy if its the wrong type of setup.

Thanks for posting the picture. I called my local dealership the other day to inquire about having the sat radio installed on my S. They mentioned the install you just got and I was a little confused about where exactly it was going to go. Tht picture clears things up. Given your previous post about having it done by a delaership in atlanta, I wonder if we're talking about the same place. Did you have it done at Atlanta Classic Cars?

How's the reception?

That is where it was done. I worked with
Aaron who was absolutely commited to the
project. We have run into a problem with
water from rain and am working it out with
Aaron. I have FULL confidence it will be resolved
and quickly. The problem I have is living in
Southport NC and traveling to the dealership
but feel it will be well worth it. I can keep
you informed if you wish and I'm sure Aaron
would share necessary information on how we
are doing. Let me know if I can share any info
with you.
Regards,
Mark

Mark.

Thanks for the update. Yes, I certainly would be interested in being kept up to date as you work with ACC to get all the bugs worked out. I'm very interested in the Sirius option but definitely don't want the trunk mounted antenna. I'll send you a PM.

trimtack,

Do you know if this installation can be carried out on the R230 SL? Also, what kind of water problem did you experience? Was the rain water interfering with reception or did the installation have unintended consequences on another part of the vehicle?

I hope you get this sorted out.

Scorchie,

Have you done any SIRIUS antenna installations in the SL? What is the stealthiest solution?

I found two places that were acceptable:

1) under the dash (easy but requires a longer antenna cable... I've had difficulty sourcing OEM antenna cables lately so I used a different Daimler-Chrysler nameplate antenna cable)

2) under a plastic portion of the boot (requires being absolutely fastidious in wire fastening and clearance checking)

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks scorchie. What to you think of trimtack's installation in his S? It looks to me like there is sufficient room underneath the hood vent on the SL that houses the windshield washer fluid nozzle.

New antenna to be installed. Water created signal loss. New connectors on
order to reduce black outs caused by extending the cable. Getting closer to
the final solution. Unfortunate problem I have is the distance to the dealer.
Will report my progress as we get to the final resolution

That's too bad that you had so many problems... we wouldn't do the experimentation on customers, preferring to figure it out before installing it for other people! I would hope that my dealership would have do the same.

I agree, but the frustration of getting any MB dealers in this area, to even
consider anything but a trunk mount, was not in the picture. The dealership
made me aware that I would be the first, and I was willing to go ahead with
being the first S500. The tight schedule I was working on, in all fairness to
the dealer, put additional pressure to finish, without the ability to tweak the
installation.

So, is it working yet? Are you using the "Mouse" antenna from MB? Trek has a smaller better one but uses only one lead whereas MB uses two. There is a converter, i think.

I had the antenna installed in the rear deck lid in a brand new C55.
Reception is iffy and am having the dealer change it to a roof mount. The clean "no see" install is fabulous until you challenge the Sirius even a little bit. It is truly disappointing that MB put enough attention on Audio to integrate an excellent sat radio into the car and then totally dropped the ball on engineering a discreet antenna to finish the job.

The one lead is a coaxial with both the left and right channel build in. The dual one is actually older technology. Notice how the coaxial ones are smaller? There is actually no difference in signal strenght between both. I have the old school dual antenna.

Sirius Satellite Radio Installed in MB 03 E500

Please advise, I have an MB 03 E500 that is equiped with a Command Center with Navigation, it also has the Satellite Button on it. When I hit that button it gives me a message that says Satellite not installed. My question to you are as follows, how do I know if it is pre-wired and second if it is can I have a satellite radio tuner (or whatever it needs to work) installed. I have talked to a local MB dealer and was told that it's not possible to have one installed, they can only be installed in 04 and up. Thanks inadvance for your help!!!!!!

On '07 E-class, Sirius antenna is integrated with the blade-type GPS antenna.

Curious if that could retrofit on earlier models.

03 SL to 04 SL Comand Upgrade

I have an 03 SL500 and going to the Satelite ready 04 SL Comand Unit which is Satelite capable. What parts and wiring will be reqired to get the Sirius Satelite all set up. I have become confused from reading various threads. I am a pretty good novice mechanic but I do not intend to do it myself.
