Button Broke on MB Radio

I have a 97 C-280 with evidently an Alpine MB Radio and the SEEK button broke (bottom right hand button). The two little plastic clips snapped. My MB Dealer first directed me to Becker, who advised that since the shaft on the Volume Control was smooth, not searated, my radio was an Alpine. Alpine Customer Service told me they do not sell OEM parts, that I would have to take my radio to an MB dealer to be sent in to be repaired.

This is rediculous for a plastic part that clips in, and probably should only cost less than $1.

Does anyone have any suggestions on obtaining this silly $1 part short of going to a junk yard and buying a face plate from a junker?
