Antenna part II (w202)

Howdy,

I have a 1997 C-230, originally, I posted the first message on the W202 forum for anteena mast replacement.

But a new problem has popped up. The new mast doesn't
seem to be catching (doesn't go up or down). I have played with it for hours, and it still does not catch. The motor works, because I still here it.

Any suggestions?

I am going to attempt to take out the motor and rip it open.
Any tips on how do this?

Thanks,
Les

For those with similar antenna motor problems some useful tips
(Sorry no illustrations).

1. Removing the antenna motor is easy, there are only 2 bolts,
and 3 connections.

2. To open the motor's main mechanism, use an allen wrench.

3. Remove the the 2 large gears (appears as one)
with a flat head screwdriver.
Make sure to remember which way it came out.

4. Clean the gears, they are really dirty.

5. Check to see that the plastic piece that holds the 2 gears
together is in tact (the curved plastic piece fits behind the other one with the metal inside it) .

6. If the that plastic piece is broken, buy some plastic
epoxy adhesive to hold it.
You may want to also use a toothpick or a hair pin inside the
the holes to help hold the gears together.

The plastic piece that holds the main gears together was broken on my motor. No one sold the individual piece (not even Hirschmann). It was either fix the $.15 piece or by a new $250 motor. Hope that helps.
