MY01 - 04.5 W203 sedan subwoofer mod
Found this on a German forum. Claim is lower bass and better, louder, performance at the same tonal/volume settings. No guarantee it works but it might be worth a shot for some of those that want to do it. Who knows, maybe the stealer will do it under warranty.
1) The subwoofer is located in the reardeck on the drivers side.
2) It is enclosed in a foam resonance chamber kind of of like a bass reflex box.
3) Issue seems to be that the foam doesn't seal very good against the chassis of the subwoofer. This causes the required air pressure to be practically non-existing, thereby reducing loudness and low frequency output.
4) Proposed solution is to run a silicon bead sealing the foam against the chassis of the subwoofer.
