cd changer from Mercedes
The Becker 2662 changer will work in your vehicle. It is currently running $408.60 plus shipping and handling. Becker also makes an optional mounting kit for $13.00 that will help install the unit into your vehicles factory location.

I beleive that the ML only had this from MY2000.
D2B is a standard that anyone can build CD changers to meet, subject to licensing the software and hardware from C&C Electronics. However, there is more than one type of connector used for the fibre optic connection
As it happens, only Becker and Alpine have produced CD changers, and Becker and Bosch Head units that use D2B *and* have the mercedes D2B connector on them.
(In fact, both have little boxes on them to convert whatever the manafacturer uses internally to D2B)
The D2B CD changers can *only* be used with D2B head units and vice-versa. (I guess you could remove the little boxes and try and use the manafacturer native interface inside, but that doesnt seem clever)
So to answer the questions asked so far: -
JamE55 - the W210 stock radio from MY1999 onward can only be used with the Alpine D2B changer sold by Mercedes or the Becker 2662 changer available from Becker dealers
LuBillyBob - the '98ML doesnt have the D2B fibre optic head unit or the fibre optic loom installed, and I dont know who made the changer or the head unit - I agree with BuellWinkle - sell both on Ebay and use the proceeds to buy your new kit. In fact as the MB CD changers are expensive you may even get enough from selling that to more than pay for a new CD changer ...
Bill - I'm pretty sure the 98ML didnt have D2B, so wont work with the Becker 2662 changer (which is D2B).
