I am new to the mbworld forum. my car is currently being serviced at a local mb dealer in va. The tech said there is an error code for the nav and that the command unit needs replaced so they ordered one. They are now telling me that the new unit wont work because their isnt some sort of software download/update that it would need to be compatible with my car. There is also what looks to be dead pixels on a small part of the screen of the current unit. They sent the replacement unit back and basically said mercedes didnt have a quote "fix" for this since there hasnt been any updates for years, so basically live with it broken is what i interpreted. I would appreciate any Guidance anyone can provide on my issue. Thanks Michael
2005 s430 command system question based on mb dealer feedback
The head service tech told me that they tried to replace the nav cd drive and the original command module in my car would not accept updates from the new disk/drive and that I will need a new command unit as well to resolve this problem. They want $6600 for the unit which seems ridiculous for a car that is at best worth 10k. My car only has 50k ish miles
Last year (told unrelated, after my w203 TAKA recall) my sound was shot. Dealer said it sounded like a 1978 single dash paper speaker F150...
I lost phone and voice control as well...
I was initially told to go home swap in my OEM Radio 20 and see if sound was okay as COMAND (retrofitted by me) was throwing no error codes.
Then the foreman got involved and gave the tech an “old school” expandable folder of DVDs and CDs...”that no one ever uses” and in order as specified each one was loaded into the drive.
My ride home had full Logic 7 power, and I never pulled the COMAND unit...
