01 s500 neutral safety switch

So I have my buddies s500 in my garage and after checking basically everything on the car I've decided the problem is likely the neutral safety switch. Is the switch inside the transmission like I've read? Also which relay controls the switch because the car seems to think it's in reverse so I'm thinking the relay for it is stuck on which makes the car do nothing when you turn the key and is killing the battery by keeping the reverse lights on. Thanks

If the reverse lights are on and you have no trouble with the transmission, you most likely have a faulty sam.

Sams get water damage and will cause weird issues like that.
I had that on my w211, water damaged same caused rear taillights to stay on.

But need more information than your post has.

He drove it to my house and it wouldn't start so we pushed it into my garage and it hasn't started since. When you turn the key nothing happens. I hooked up a start button and got it to tirm over but the fuel pump doesn't turn on. Since it does nothing when you turn the key and the reverse lights stay on I'm assuming it's the neutral safety switch, the relay, or the sam. Its easiest to check the relay so I figured I'd start there
